I spent several years trying to break into the international development field to use the bachelor's degree in Political Science that I earned from Virginia Tech in 1990. After getting a job with a nonprofit organization, I realized that my interest lay more in the software than the content. So in early 1993, I started teaching myself everything I could about PageMaker and Freehand.

In September 1994, I got a job at a business-to-business publisher formatting newsletters, looseleaf publications, reports, and paperback books. During the next twelve years, I created graphics in Adobe Illustrator and coordinated the company's transfer of over 10,000 legacy files from PageMaker to Adobe InDesign. I also worked on the company web site for over a decade, creating html files in BBEdit and graphics in Photoshop.

From 1995 to 2000, I was responsible for the content portion of the web site at the company, where I taught myself how to html-code pages and convert articles from PageMaker to html.

In June 2006, I left the publishing company to start my own company, lscdesign. As a freelance desktop publisher and graphic designer, I have continued to work on newsletters and paperback books and have expanded to creating marketing materials.

Now in the most exciting time of my career, I am eager to begin new projects and see what else I can learn as I continue to meet the diverse needs of my clients in our rapidly-changing technological landscape.
